Hacktivism: The New Age of Uprising

Last week I mentioned that I will post series of infographics for you. So here's another treat to give you some cool information while having an eye candy.

Just yesterday when I was watching the news on TV, one of the headlines that got me interested was that a few hackers infiltrated several sites from China, including one of their government sites. according to the news, it all started when some Chinese hackers bugged the University of the Philippines' website and posted “Huangyan Island (Scarborough Shoal) is Ours!” just a few days ago and yesterday, some Pinoy hackers retaliated back and brought down several Chinese sites which include one of China's government sites.

Now, I won't be surprised if such attacks were successful since according to the headlines, these Pinoy hackers came from the famous hacker group called "Anonymous". For those who doesn't know who or what is Anonymous, they are a globally known organization of hackers that were able to hack sites with high security including sites of FBI and other government agencies.

This new form of activism has been rampant lately, and some people in the online community call this "Hacktivism". It popped up into my mind that, with almost all of us are now connected if not dependent to the internet, whether it may be for communication, for personal things, and even for our work, hacktivism may become a powerful medium that can be used to get the message across.

What do you think of these Hack attacks? Leave a comment below.

Here's another infographic I got from Frugaldad in terms of hacktivism around the world.
